Case Study: A Proactive Visualization for Contra’s NYC HQ (That the Co-founder Reposted)

The Challenge: A Blank Canvas with Locked Potential

Sometimes, the most valuable projects are the ones you create for yourself.

Weeks ago, Contra Co-founder Ben Huffman posted a photo of their new, empty office in NYC. As an architectural visualizer, I saw what he saw: a blank canvas filled with incredible potential.

The challenge for any new office is translating a brand’s “vibe” into a physical space. An empty room doesn’t inspire a community.

The Proactive Solution: A Vibrant, Biophilic Hub

On a whim, I decided to take a proactive approach. I spent time creating a conceptual vision of what that space could become: a vibrant, biophilic hub for the Contra community.

The design wasn’t just about adding furniture; it was about injecting the brand’s energy, featuring:

  • A “Biophilic Wall” with branded neon to serve as the space’s green heart.
  • Defined zones for collaboration (the community table) and casual meetings (the lounge area).
  • A modern coffee bar to fuel creativity and connection.

The “Before”

The “After” Visualization

The Result: Validation at the Highest Level

This is the power of proactive visualization.

The result? Ben Huffman himself saw the concept, reposted it, and sparked an incredible conversation with other professionals on the platform.

This project wasn’t about a contract; it was about starting a conversation, sharing a vision, and showing how you can bring value—even before you’re asked. It was one of the most rewarding “just for fun” projects I’ve ever done.
